Shamman

Hi, I am Shamman!

My pockets are never empty. Plastic bags, shiny wrappers, maybe even a crinkly piece of newspaper… they are my treasures. I like the sound they make, the way they fold and scrunch.

I love being outside. It makes me feel alive. If there’s a swing nearby, I’ll find it. Back and forth, back and forth. It is my kind of flying. When I meet new people, I can’t help it, I just want to hug them. And yes, maybe smell them too. It’s how I say, “Hi, you’re interesting!”

I’m not always the best at saying when something hurts or when I’m sick. I’m still learning to tell people what I need. But I know what makes me feel calm- my favorite things in my pocket, music in my ears, a big bear hug, or someone telling me, “Good boy, Shamman.”

I may not explain myself in words the way others do, but if you walk beside me, you’ll understand.

I am not just a boy with autism.

I am Shamman. I am an adventurer. I am a painter.
